Physical Therapist Assistant

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is responsible for planning and administering treatments for disabilities, injuries and diseases through massage, exercise, hydrotherapy, heat therapy, patient evaluation, patient treatment, documentation requirements. Maintains expected productivity levels (including special assignments). The primary function is patient care, unless otherwise specified.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Directs and aids patients in exercises and functional training using various devices and equipment.
  • Determines the appropriate need for and administers standard diagnostic and prognostic examination of muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability.
  • Provides for implementation of proper treatment program and periodic reevaluation of program.
  • Designs and constructs, or directs construction of specialized testing and treatment equipment.
  • Evaluates patient's response and progress and discusses same with the appropriate physician.


Minimum Education: Graduate of an Accredited Physical Therapy Program, approved by the American Physical Therapy Association, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. 

Minimum Experience: Minimum of one to two (1-2) years as a Physical Therapist.  

Req. Certification/Licensure: Current licensure or registration as a California as a Physical Therapist. Current American Heart Association (BLS) preferred.
