Housekeeping (EVS) Aide

The Housekeeping (EVS) Aide is one of the most important departments in a hospital, responsible for maintaining the hospital and office buildings in a safe, clean, sanitary, orderly and attractive manner, free from offensive odors.  Performs daily cleaning of occupied patient areas, nursing stations, work area, halls, lounges, storage areas, laboratory, bathrooms, offices, and any other areas assigned, in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department, and in accordance with the facility’s objectives.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Soiled linen is stripped from the patient bed and placed in proper container
  • Glass Disposal in white 5-gallon labeled buckets are covered securely. Full 5-gallon buckets are replaced with empty clean bucket. Full bucket, after securing cover, is transported to Infectious Waste storage area (locked) to wait proper pick up. 
  • Infectious Waste s picked up in assigned areas. Waste is double-bagged in Red Infectious Waste labeled bags and securely tied. Waste is disposed in specified large bins (labeled Biohazardous) in locked storage area in rear of Medical Office Building.  
  • Trash is picked up in all assigned areas. Trash is placed in closed, covered container on cart. Trash cans are cleaned and relined after emptying. Trash is disposed of in large dumpsters in rear of Medical Building for later collection.
  • Check Out Cleaning includes making sure soiled linen is stripped from the patient bed and placed in proper container. 


Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience preferred. 

Minimum Experience: One to two (1-2) years environmental services experience preferred. Six (6) months to one (1) year in a hospital environmental services capacity preferred. 

Req. Certification/Licensure: American Heart Association (BLS) Certification preferred.
