Director ICU/CCU

The Director of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Critical Care Unit (CCU) is responsible for nursing care provided on a 24 hour basis to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs and evaluates this care in collaboration with other patient care and supports disciplines in an environment of respect and dignity.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs and evaluates this care in collaboration with other patient care, and support disciplines in an environment of respect and dignity.
  • In concert with the CNO assists with organizing, developing, directing and managing the staffing functions of the Nursing Departments and ensuring the delivery of quality care.
  • Strengthen focus on excellence in a culture that measures quality and continuous improvement of performance to meet the needs and expectations of patients and community. Key Measures: Press Ganey, Customer Service Surveys, Performance Web, EOC Rounds, Regulatory Monitors.
  • Demonstrates that communication is the primary key in relationships. Creates a culture that fosters open, honest, and respectful exchange. Key Measures: Employee Engagement Score, Implementation of Employee Survey Impact Plan, Medical Staff Relationships, Demonstration of Monthly Staff Meetings and Staff Communication / Recognition.
  • Develops and manages nursing care delivery process for a designated nursing department ensuring that policies, procedures, standards of care, and standards of practice are consistent across the nursing organization as well as with current nursing research and practice.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive, professional image of nursing. Accurately assesses the strengths and developmental needs of staff. Recognizes and ensures ongoing positive recognition of staff contributions and fosters educational and development opportunities. Ensures competency of staff is maintained and staff are performing within the appropriate scope of practice.
  • Ensures a proactive approach for patient rounds / excellent communication / intervention on behalf of patients and families at risk. Facilitates timely follow through on all patient problems and communicates such to appropriate MDs, managers, and other departments as necessary.


Qualifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an Accredited Professional School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN), Bachelor of Arts (BA) required. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience: Three to five (3-5) years clinical experience in an acute hospital setting; two plus (2+) years progressive management experience in ICU / CCU.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Current California RN license. American Heart Association (BCLS), (ACLS). CCRN Certification preferred.
