Clinical Education Specialist

The Clinical Education Specialist is responsible for coordinating house-wide educational programs presented through the Education Department. Functions as a resource regarding educational issues throughout the hospital. The RN Education Specialist is responsible for planning, and evaluating an organized program for employees as well as the patients to achieve professional excellence in our services. Has in-depth nursing knowledge, clinical expertise, and knowledge of adult learning.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Responsible for planning, conducting needs assessment and evaluating orientation and staff development programs for nursing service personnel.
  • Serves as the contact person for Patient and Employees education.
  • Establishes professional educational resources and instructional leadership for all hospital staff.
  • Provide and/or facilitate in­services in order to meet regulatory agency requirements.   
  • Assesses clinical performance in relation to established performance standards; collaborates with nursing management personnel in identifying learning needs of staff; assesses learning needs of orientees and trainees in relation to their position performance standards.
  • Provides a competency-based orientation program for all categories of nursing service personnel.
  • Conducts well planned, organized, relevant, and clinically oriented programs in response to needs.


Minimum Education: Graduate of an Accredited Professional School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred.

Minimum Experience: Three to five (3-5) years of clinical experience in adult education or education specialty training. Minimum of two to three (2­-3) years experience in hospital education. Three to five (3­-5) years of clinical experience required. Must have previous work experience as a Hospital Educator to be considered for this position.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Current California RN license. Current American Heart Association (BLS), (ACLS) Certification.
